Welcome to our regular team update. This month, find out more about our collaboration with De Montfort University in Leicester, interviewing students for a work experience opportunity.
Speed interviews offer great opportunities for students, and help us identify future talent
We were invited to De Montfort University to carry out “speed interviews” with some of their students.
The aim of the day was to find the right candidates for work experience at Salisbury House Wealth. These were fast-paced, timed 10-minute sessions, giving the students the chance to demonstrate their interest in finance and tell us why they thought they should be chosen for the placements.
James Billingham, Career Development Manager at De Montfort University, said, “It has been a pleasure to collaborate with Michelle and Anja at Salisbury House Wealth for our accounting and finance speed interview day.
“It can often be difficult for students to portray their range of skills, abilities, and talents within the confines of a CV due to a lack of direct industry experience. With this in mind, we teamed up with Salisbury House Wealth to put on the fantastic speed interview day.
“The company interviewed seven DMU students, all with an interest in working in financial disciplines in the future. Each interview was short but gave the student the chance to talk and showcase their knowledge of the industry.
“This gave them the valuable opportunity to benefit from direct interview experience, along with the chance to meet industry professionals within their chosen discipline.
“The day was mutually beneficial, with students benefiting from meeting a local business and practising their interview technique. Salisbury House Wealth benefited from identifying the best talent to bring in for work experience and hopefully establishing a talent pipeline for future opportunities.
“It was also the perfect chance for us to showcase the fantastic opportunities available to our students in our great city, hoping to attract many to remain at Leicester in the long term.”
Michelle Wilson, Client Support Team Leader at Salisbury House Wealth, said, “The students that I interviewed all had great knowledge of finance. They’d researched our company and gave very good answers to all questions, with a really high standard across the board.
“I had a set list of questions, the candidates were given time to ask me questions about the company, and I explained what they could expect from their work experience with us.
“After the interviews, I gave the company the information about the students who stood out on the day, and we offered them work experience with us.
“It was a great opportunity for the students to get some real experience of taking part in an interview, while for me it was a good chance to brush up on my recruitment skills!”
We’re looking forward to hosting the students and seeing them bring their talents into our organisation. Watch this space to find out how they get on!
